Poor Nutrition Diet Or Fad Diet For Weight Loss

The definition of a fad diet is very subjective. Many people use the term to deride what they consider is a poor weight loss diet.
However a fad diet is simply a weight loss diet that becomes very popular (often quickly) and then may fall out of favor (sometimes just as quickly).
A list of fad diets can vary depending on the author. Just because a diet is called a "fad" does not necessarily mean the diet is a failure.

Other Definitions of a Fad Diet Some nutritionists define a fad diet by a series of questions rather than assessing popularity:
Recommendations that promise a quick fix
Dire warnings of dangers from a single product or regimen
Claims that sound too good to be true
Simplistic conclusions drawn from a complex study
Recommendations based on a single study Dramatic statements that are refuted by reputable scientific organizations
Lists of "good" and "bad" foods Recommendations made to help sell a product
Recommendations based on studies published without review by other researchers.

Low Carb Diets:-
Due to extensive publicity, low carb diets have become increasingly popular. However there is considerable ambiguity over exactly what is low carbohydrate. Many companies have seen low carb popularity as a brand to be exploited.

All food is made up of three primary macro nutrients – carbohydrates (or sugars), proteins, and fats. Low carb implies that the percentage of carbohydrate (by calorie) is low – but lower than what? High Carb 50-70% (USDA Food Pyramid) Moderate Carb 40-50% Low Carb 25-39% Very Low Carb 0-25% However it is common to find that any diet less than 50-60% carb ratio is called a low carb diet. Depending on one’s sensitivity to carbohydrates, a moderate carb ratio may be better than a high carb ratio. By definition, the lower the carb ratio – the higher the fat and protein ratio. Generally speaking a low carb diet will also tend to be a high protein diet.

Zone Diet
The Zone Diet was created by Dr. Barry Sears. At the heart of the Zone Diet is its nutrient ratios. The Zone Diet follows a formula of 40% carbs, 30% protein, and 30% fats (sometimes called 40:30:30). This must be followed at every meal. Considered by some to be the perfect diet. The biggest criticism of the diet is that it is too complex to follow. However the Zone has gathered a substantial following some of it due to celebrity endorsement. If you’re going to follow the Zone diet you need to read The Zone : Revolutionary Life Plan to Put Your Body in Total Balance for Permanent Weight Loss by Barry Sears. There are websites that offer a significant amount of support for the Zone Diet (some even deliver meals).
The Zone Diet plan is all about ‘meal ratios’. It can be considered ‘low carb’, due to the fact that the average person consumes about 50-60% carbohydrates in their diet. The good thing about the Zone diet is that it encourages a combination of all the nutrients in each meal – and it stresses the risks of processed carbohydrates (white pastas and breads etc).

Zone Diet in Detail
A closer look at the Zone Diet shows that it is a low(er) carbohydrate diet – with a low calorie count at times possibly too low. Exercise is not a part of the formula (but always recommended). It does seem complex requiring dedication and discipline. It is also a diet that may be difficult to work around eating with family and friends.
The Zone diet also has assisted many in improving general health (not just weight loss). Due to the levels of proteins, it is possible to gain muscle on this diet (but only with the right weights and exercise training). However be warned that the calorie recommendations may be too low for an active person.
The Zone is complex and has a substantial list of “forbidden” foods – however there are a number of web sites with programs that have substantially simplified the Zone. At its basic principles it is a good program and would be a great improvement for anyone who currently has a typical western diet.

Atkins Diet :-
Dr. Robert Atkins first wrote about the Atkins diet in the 1970s, in his book The New Diet Revolution. Over recent years, the Atkins diet plan has become one of the most popular diet plans – with Time Magazine naming it “The most popular diet program”. Food manufacturers quickly formulated low-carb food products, but during 2004 the diet rapidly fell out of favor. However it will always remain a very useful diet for many people. In response to the negative press some aspects of the Atkins program received, the people at Atkins have revamped their program for 2010 so that it lines up with a healthier way of eating called “The New Atkins for a New You.”  See how it has changed below.

Original Atkins Diet Atkins has four phases – all with a carefully controlled level of carbohydrate intake.
Phase 1
The restrictive induction phases lasts for a minimum of two weeks and calls for a maximum of 20 grams of carbohydrate intake (no starchy vegetables, fruits, grains, bread).
Weight loss on the Atkins diet is based on the process of Ketosis:
First, the main source of energy for our bodies is carbohydrates. When we have fewer carbs in our body, it must look elsewhere for another source of energy. Next in line is stored body fat. So reducing carbs forces the body to burn fat. This process is called Ketosis. Secondly, carbs stimulate the creation of insulin. Insulin is what converts excess carbs to fat. So when you have less carbs you have less insulin and therefore create less new fat.”

Phase 2.
The Ongoing Weight Loss phase involves adding more fibrous vegetables (carbohydrates) until the “Critical Carbohydrate Level for Losing” is reached. The small increases in carbohydrates are carefully managed on a week-by-week basis.

Phase 3 and 4
These phases are maintenance phases – where carbohydrate intake can be increased – but only until the point that weight is maintained (Critical Carbohydrate Level for Maintenance). Any food that may lead to weight gain should be avoided.
Atkins recommends choosing unrefined or unprocessed carbohydrates.

The New Atkins :-
The New Atkins For a New You is designed to reflect a greater emphasis on healthy, nutritionally dense foods along with portion control. Atkins has recently strengthened their online diet program and is in the process of making their services international.
The New Atkins for a New You differs from the original in the following ways:
More of an emphasis on wholesome foods.
Stresses the importance of healthy fats.
More focused on nutrition from fresh vegetables, lean protein, fruits, and whole grains.
More flexible to appeal to people with busy lifestyles.
More emphasis on portion and Calorie control.
Special attention given to those who are diabetic as well as vegetarians.
More emphasis on being active and exercise.

Pros
Many have experienced success following the Atkins Plan.
Quick results can be experienced. Many restaurants have adopted low-carb options on their menus.
The New Atkins has been adapted to a broader range of dieters with special dietary considerations.
Many Atkins approved snacks are available in the grocery store.

Cons :-
One of the most controversial issues with Atkins is that it is high-fat diet. Most government health agencies recommend no more than 30% fat in our diet – yet with Atkins you can easily consume more fat than this. However, the new Atkins has lined up with this percentage and recommends healthy fats.
One must question how healthy the process of Ketosis is. In the short term it may have the desired effect – but in the long term? Some suggest that certain organs may be overworked to sustain the process of Ketosis.
Promotion of their own line of processed meals and snacks.

Conclusion Atkins has been very successful for many people and has resulted in not only significant weight loss – but also health improvement. Many people do find the diet demanding at first and need to make significant behavior modification to get the best out of Atkins. If you are thinking of beginning this diet, we strongly encourage you to research and read as much as possible before beginning the diet and consult with your health professional.

South Beach Diet :-
The South Beach Diet plan was created by cardiologist Dr Arthur Agatston based at Mount Sinai Hospital – in South Florida. The diet was originally developed for overweight heart patients. The patients experienced excellent results, not only in their general health but also lost weight.
Since hitting the shelves, Agatston’s book The South Beach Diet: The Delicious, Doctor-Designed, Foolproof Plan for Fast and Healthy Weight Loss has remained a bestseller (despite a pretentious subtitle). The diet is becoming known as the “healthy” version of the Atkins diet. This diet is good – very good, and includes foods such as whole grains, healthy fats, fish, chicken, fruits and vegetables.

Three Phases The South Beach Diet begins with a somewhat restricted two-week induction phase — generally producing weight loss of 8 to 13 pounds. In this phase most carbohydrates (such as rice, pasta, and breads) must be avoided. There are three meals a day and snacks — eating until your hunger is satisfied. Meats, shellfish, chicken, turkey, and fish are all on the menu – along with nuts, cheese (fat-free), eggs, salads, and vegetables. There are two subsequent phases that include specific meal plans and recipes. The second phase reintroduces some of the foods avoided in Phase 1 – but only sparingly. In this phase weight loss should be in the region of 1-2 pounds per week. The third phase is about living the lifestyle more than a phase – its about eating healthy foods, and maintaining weight.

This is NOT Atkins
Although the South Beach Diet may seem similar to the Atkins diet or the Zone diet, Dr Agatston stresses it is not a strictly low-carb diet. It’s all about balancing the good carbs against the “bad” carbs. Although when looking at the first 14-day phase – there is no doubt that this is a low-carb phase. However the South Beach Diet is based around the Glycemic Index, and carbs are chosen according to this index.

CELLULAR NUTRITION  THERAPY FOR WEIGHT LOSS
Most people do not get enough nutrition. The foods we eat have been depleted of vitamins, minerals and nutrients, and are often laced with toxins. The Cellular Nutrition program provides everything out body needs to maintain good health and vitality. Because of bad eating habits, pollution, alcohol, tobacco, toxins and stress, our bodies cannot properly absorb the nutrients we do consume, and so, Cellular Nutrition not only gives us nutrition but is also designed to help our bodies absorb the nutrition, which it does in 3 ways:

1. CLEANSING

Everytime we eat, drink and breathe, we do not just take good things into our bodies but harmful things as well - substances which may be toxic to the body. Each one of our trillions of cells goes through a process called metabolism, converting oxygen, nutrients and other substances into energy or into the building blocks of new cells. Part of this continual process is called detoxification or cleansing - the removal of harmful toxins from the body. These toxins, if allowed to build up, can cause many of the allergies and ailments from which people suffer. Cellular Nutrition helps this cleansing process through a special formula of health-giving herbs and fibers.

2. ABSORPTION

Inside our intestines are small finger-like projections called villi. These are part of our body's absorption system. Because of bad eating habits, stress and toxins, the villi can become impaired - breaking off or clogging up with glue-like toxic substances. Even if we eat all the right foods, if our villi are not functioning properly the body will not be able to absorb and use the nutrition. Cellular Nutrition is especially formulated to help cleanse and maximize our absorption system.

3. CELLULAR REGENERATION.

The next stage of the Cellular Nutrition program is to help the cells of out body regenerate - healthy cells making copies of themselves. The body will do this naturally it receives the right building blocks: proteins, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and trace elements. This is the core of the cellular Nutrition program. With top quality nutrition in an absorbance format, the body's own healing mechanisms can work fully, and the result is a greater feeling of health, energy and vitality.
